Jeffrey B. Neaton is a Professor of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley, Associate Laboratory Director for Energy Sciences, and the Director of the Molecular Foundry, a multidisciplinary Department of Energy Nanoscale Science Research Center, at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has also served as Deputy Director for Science of the Materials Sciences Division at LBNL from 2011-2012, and acting Director of MSD from 2012-2013. Neaton received his B.S. in Physics and Astrophysics from the University of Minnesota in 1995 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell University in 2000, where he used ab initio calculations to predict new structural and electronic phases in simple metals under pressure. From 2000-2003, he was a postdoctoral associate at Rutgers University, where he shed light on novel dielectric and ferroelectric phase behavior of complex oxides, including multiferroics and superlattices, with first principles calculations. In 2003, he joined the Molecular Foundry at LBNL, first as a postdoc, and later as staff scientist. Since 2012, Neaton has been a Division Associate Editor for Physical Review Letters. He also currently serves on the Division of Materials Physics Executive Committee of the American Physical Society. Neaton received an LBNL Outstanding Achievement Award in 2007, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2009, and in 2013, he was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society.
