Aleksandar (Alek) Radic is a final year PhD student working between the Optoelectronics and Surface physics groups at the physics department at Cambridge, supervised by Prof Akshay Rao. His PhD project, titled ‘Probing the surfaces of energy materials’, uses novel optical and atom-beam microscopy and spectroscopy techniques to interrogate the structural and vibrational properties at the very surface of energy materials, with a specific focus on 2D systems. During his PhD he has developed new instrumentation and measurement techniques to achieve ultimate surface sensitivity that leverage the unique properties of neutral helium-3/4 atoms as a probe
