Anton Marius Graf will join Kavli ENSI as a Heising-Simons Junior Fellow. His research interests lie at the interface of quantum dynamics, condensed matter physics, and theoretical chemistry. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University under the supervision of Eric J. Heller, where he also earned a master’s degree in Applied Physics. He holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge and the Technical University of Munich, respectively.
Anton’s doctoral research focused on quantum chaos, electron-lattice dynamics, and quantum transport in nanoscale systems. He studied quantum scars and ergodicity breaking, developing a generalized theory of quantum memory in generic nonstationary quantum states. He also investigated STM signatures of genuine quantum scars, contributing to their first direct visualization. In parallel, he was part of the development of Quantum Acoustics, a coherent-state framework for describing lattice vibrations in solids beyond standard perturbative approaches.
At Kavli ENSI, Anton will collaborate closely with the Moore and Limmer groups to develop theoretical descriptions of electron-lattice interactions in quantum materials and devices. His research will focus on quantum dynamics in realistic environments, where finite-temperature lattice motion, dynamical disorder, and coupling to external degrees of freedom influence measurable properties. By combining real-material modeling with non-Hermitian open-system approaches, he aims to understand how microscopic interactions give rise to transport, localization, coherence, and dissipation. A central goal is to connect these theoretical descriptions to experimentally accessible signatures, including STM and ARPES measurements, in collaboration with experimental groups at the institute.
