Bio/CV:

Fujia Liu is currently a 4th year Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry, where he is advised by Professor Felix Fischer. Fujia received his B.Eng. in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from Fudan University, where he researched on developing new methodologies for synthesizing linear and branched conjugated polymers.

Fujia's doctoral research focuses on the bottom-up design and synthesis of novel 1D and 2D materials, with the goal of engineering exotic electronic and topological quantum states. A central theme of his work involves refining molecular precursors to rationally realize and control complex many-body states in synthetic organic materials, enabling the development of advanced nanoscale electronics.

As a Kavli ENSI fellow, Fujia will pursue an approach to engineer quantum phenomena, such as heavy Dirac fermions in flat-band systems. Specifically, he will accomplish this using covalent and metal-organic framework (COF/MOF)-based nodal line semimetals. He will use density functional theory (DFT) calculation to predict and tune the electronic properties of these 2D materials. Collaborating closely within the Fischer group, Fujia will integrate these frameworks into STM-compatible gated device architectures. By precisely controlling local carrier density, he will characterize low-energy quasiparticle excitations and map the emergence of spin and charge density waves.
