Catalytic Networks Lunch

On Wednesday July 16, 2014 Kavli ENSI hosted the first Kavli Catalytic Networks lunch meeting for a group of 15-25 graduate students and postdocs within the Kavli research groups who actively research a topic related to catalysis. Karthish Manthiram from the Alivisatos group presented on "Electrochemical methanation of carbon dioxide" and Yonatan Horowitz from the Somorjai group presented "Sum frequency generation in tandem with cyclic-voltammetry: Unveiling the solid electrolyte interface on Si anode and Au cathodes." Each gave a short presentation, prepared to be 15-20 minutes. To encourage discussion, questions were permitted during the presentations, resulting in significantly longer presentations than originally planned. This will continue to be a monthly meeting.

A nanoscale copper catalyst supported on glassy carbon can be used to convert carbon dioxide into methane using electricity.
