Dr. Elizabeth Peterson is a staff scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where she uses ab initio and model Hamiltonian methods to study quantum materials and applied energy materials. She received her PhD in Physics from UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 2022, during which time she was a Kavli Philomathia Graduate Student Fellow from 2021 to 2022, under the guidance of Professor Jeffrey Neaton. Before assuming her current position as a staff scientist, she was a postdoctoral research associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 2022-2023. Her research interests include the study of quantum materials, including 2D and Dirac materials, via electronic structure calculations for applications in quantum information science and quantum sensing. Additionally, she studies the design of, and role of point defects in, green energy materials for applications in the production of solar fuels and next-generation reactors.
