Alex completed his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Maryland and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of California, Berkeley in the same field. He is advised by Prof. Kristin Persson. For his PhD research, he uses computational methods to study how polymer chemistry influences the chemical recycling of novel plastics designed for circularity. For his exchange project, he will be working with Dr. Stephen Cox in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry. The project will focus on understanding the interaction of an ionized, cross-linked polymer with aqueous acid. This will combine Alex's knowledge of polymer modelling with Dr. Cox's expertise in aqueous systems.
