Rakesh Arul recently completed his PhD in the Cavendish Laboratories, University of Cambridge. He is starting as a Research Fellow of St. John’s College Cambridge to continue independent research in the field of nanophotonics and optoelectronics with Prof. Jeremy Baumberg and Prof. Akshay Rao. His research interests include the science of how light can be trapped to the nanoscale to control optoelectronic properties and affect chemical transformations. During his PhD, he helped invent a new way of detecting and enhancing mid-infrared light, which is useful for disease diagnosis and thermal cameras, winning the Cavendish Prize in Experimental Physics.
